On Tuesday 4th July our Y3 and Y4 Tennis Team competed in the Level 3 County Finals at Oxstalls tennis centre in Gloucester. After competing in the first round of three matches, the team qualified for the final to compete for the ultimate prize – the gold cup. After two more tense matches, the team were successful and won the cup to become the overall County champions for Gloucestershire. This was an amazing achievement as this team had previously won the KS1 cup last year so they retained their trophy as Champions!

Trinity Day at Prestbury St Mary's Junior (43 images)

On Thursday 8th June, the whole school spent a very busy and creative day learning more about the Holy Trinity as part of our RE curriculum. After learning about God the father, Jesus - God’s son and the Holy Spirit, the children created some fantastic artwork and certainly had a great time doing so. The topic naturally generated lots of very good and interesting questions – many of which were too tricky to answer! We were delighted that two of our governors, Rev. Liz Palin and Mrs Carol Gunn were able to join us for the morning and experience all that was going on. They were very impressed with what deep thinkers your children are! The work will soon be displayed in the hall – do come and take a look.

Y5 have a blast making rocket cars! (59 images)

Recently Rolls Royce Bloodhound Ambassadors worked with Y5 children to design and make rocket-fueled cars. The Bloodhound is a supersonic car with an engine made by Rolls Royce, designed not only to go faster than the speed of sound but also to achieve speeds of over 1,000 mph! Although the Y5 rocket cars didn't manage to reach quite this speed, the fasted did travel at 51mph. This was a very exciting day for us all!

Y4CL visit to Welsh Bicknor (106 images)

After weeks (if not months!) of anticipation, Year 4 have taken part in a tremendous three- day residential visit to Welsh Bicknor. Our time was packed from morning to night with fantastic activities and experiences. Much of the learning during the visit supported this term’s Science work about Living Things. We had the chance to explore the forest habitat and search for the wildlife it supports, and then take samples back to base to examine more closely under microscopes. We explored the demands of the local environment further with an adventurous hike and some very popular den building. Back at the Youth Hostel, the team took very good care of us with delicious food and fun activities like bread making. They also led us in a selection of challenges, from a ‘night line’ to a giant marble run, that put tough demands on our teamwork and communication. (For some, though, the biggest challenge of the week was getting the cover onto their duvet!) We came back, exhausted, muddy and full of wonderful memories of our time away together.

They took part in a workshop which demonstrated the relationship between the Earth and the Moon, and their place in the solar system, and were awed by a 3D planetarium show which visited our nearest planetary neighbours. As well as this, the children were able to explore the fascinating exhibits on offer in the museum.

Cleeve Cluster Girls' Football Festival (16 images)

Two teams of girls from years 5 and 6 represented the school at the local Cleeve Cluster Girls Football Festival. Despite the constant rain the girls played fantastically well and were a real credit to the school. For some of the girls, it was the first time they had represented the school in a competitive festival and they all enjoyed the experience. The highlight was an intra school match between Prestbury A and Prestbury B! (The result was a 0-0 draw!)

Y4 visit Chedworth Roman Villa (33 images)

Our visit to Chedworth Roman Villa was divided into three fascinating parts. The excellent staff gave us a guided tour of the remains and helped us imagine our way back 2,000 years to when Chedworth was a busy, wealthy Roman residence. In the education centre, we became archaeologists, examining and sorting genuine Roman artefacts from the site - we even touched the fingerprints left in an ancient tile by a naughty Roman child! There was hard work, too, as we were temporarily ‘enslaved’ and taught to produce medicine bags for our Roman owners. It was amazing to find out about the Roman history of our own local area.
