Rumble in the Jungle - check out our Values treat! (192 images)

Our Christian Values are fundamental to everything we do in school. Each time we demonstrate one of our values, we earn a pebble which is placed in the Values Jar. When the Values Jar is full, the whole school gets a treat and this time we all had fun on the amazing Jungle Run!

Y4JM visit Welsh Bicknor (226 images)

Year Four’s residential visit to Welsh Bicknor has once again been a highlight of the year. Our three days were packed from morning ‘til night with exciting adventures, fun activities, delicious food and brilliant team work! To support our Science work on Living Things and their Habitats, we became animal detectives searching for signs of wildlife. We also took time to explore our values of Peace through sensory activities in the woods and Creativity with a natural art project. A demanding hike took us up into glorious sunshine on top of the hill where we built some rather impressive shelters. Our evenings were filled with very enjoyable, if a little sticky, bread making and a well-earned movie night. We finished our visit with challenging teamwork games like the Giant Marble Run and an archery session, both brilliantly run by the YHA staff. There were many weary-looking, faces on the return journey, but every one of them was wearing a big smile.

Y4CL visit to Welsh Bicknor (85 images)

After weeks (if not months!) of anticipation, Year 4 have taken part in a tremendous three- day residential visit to Welsh Bicknor. Our time was packed from morning to night with fantastic activities and experiences. Much of the learning during the visit supported this term’s Science work about Living Things. We had the chance to explore the forest habitat and search for the wildlife it supports, we then explored the local environment further with an adventurous hike and some very popular den building. Back at the Youth Hostel, the team took very good care of us with delicious food and fun activities like bread making. They also led us in a selection of challenges, from archery to a giant marble run, that put tough demands on our teamwork and communication. We came back, exhausted, muddy and full of wonderful memories of our time away together.

We are the Champions - Y6 Boys win the Cheltenham Primary Football League! (39 images)

What a final it was! Playing against Naunton Park, it was action all the way. Prestbury scored first thanks to a brilliant goal and by the second half we were leading 1:0. Naunton Park rallied with a fantastic second half goal and by full time it was a draw. A nail biting extra time period followed and close to the end of the match, Prestbury scored the winning goal. Team Prestbury shone through as our values of Perseverance and Responsibility were clear to see. The boys were cheered on by parents and staff and we couldn't be more proud of our team. Well done boys!

Girls' Cluster Football Festival (25 images)

On Wednesday 21st February two girls teams represented the school at the annual Cleeve Cluster Girls Football Festival. The girls played some amazing football in the group stages and both teams qualified for the semi-finals! Unfortunately this meant that the teams had to play each other for a place in the final! The game was a draw and the festival organisers had to go back to the results in the group stage to separate the teams! Prestbury B played Bishops Cleeve in the final and Prestbury A played Gotherington in the 3rd/4th place play off. Prestbury B lost 1-0 in the final and Prestbury A drew 1-1 in the other game resulting in Prestbury being runners up and joint 3rd place out of ten teams, a fantastic result for the school! Well done girls!

Y5 K'Nex Workshop! (27 images)

The children in Year 5 took part in a challenging K’nex workshop. This involved them having to both design and create a working fairground ride using K’nex. This, however, was only part of the challenge as once created, the rides were then coded to move at different speeds, change direction, play music and even have lights flashing on and off. Enjoy the variety of designs!

Lost Property Gallery (9 images)

In an effort to reunite your child with their clothing, we are setting up this page. Ideally all clothing that comes to school is labelled with your child's name...but when it's not, I will photograph items and put them in this gallery. If you spot an item, please come into school and let me know. Any item not collected within a month will be taken to the local charity shop. Mrs Hopton

‘Down to Earth’ - The Kinetic Theatre Company visits school (5 images)

What would happen if a race of alien ducks came to Earth and used a Dalek (planted in a stereotypical northern manufacturing office) to steal all of our planet’s water? Well that was the plot context through which the children learned some science on Monday 22nd January. We were able to take advantage of a last minute opportunity to enjoy a musical comedy show delivered by the Kinetic Theatre Company. All classes attended and the children had a great time, as well as learning about aspects of the solar system, shadows and the water cycle. It was fun, if a little ‘quackers’!

Y5 visit to 'We the Curious' in Bristol (69 images)

Y5 Trip to @Bristol As part of their Earth and Beyond topic, Y5 were lucky enough to visit ‘We the Curious’ - a science museum in Bristol. Whilst there, they took part in a workshop which demonstrated the relationship between the Earth and the Moon, and their place in the solar system, and were awed by a 3D planetarium show which visited our nearest planetary neighbours. As well as this, the children were able to explore the fascinating exhibits on offer around the museum.

Y4 create Roman Onagers! (52 images)

As part of their D&T work Year 4 have gone on the rampage with their very own Roman siege engines. The children found out all about Celtic King Caractacus’s escape to a well-fortified hill fort and designed their model weapons to effectively attack the enemy forces. Making the model onagers (a type of siege engine with a torsion-sprung lever that could fire huge boulders) required a lot of skills. The children learned to accurately measure, mark, saw and join wood. The project culminated with testing of the children’s final products; each class launched an all-out attack on model targets representing the runaway king in his hill fort.

Legend Theatre visit Y5 (135 images)

On Wednesday 16th November, Y5 enjoyed watching Legend Theatre perform Theseus and the Minotaur. In the afternoon the two classes were taught how to mime just like the actors in the show. The afternoon ended with a trip to the ‘agora’. At this Ancient Greece market place, the children learnt how to make a variety of goods and then tried to sell them to Theseus.

Y4 have an amazing time at Chedworth Roman Villa (83 images)

Our visit to Chedworth Roman Villa was divided into three fascinating parts. The excellent staff gave us a guided tour of the remains and helped us imagine our way back 2,000 years to when Chedworth was a busy, wealthy Roman residence. In the education centre, we became archaeologists, examining and sorting genuine Roman artefacts from the site - we even touched the fingerprints left in an ancient tile by a naughty Roman child! There was hard work, too, as we were temporarily ‘enslaved’ and taught to produce medicine bags for our Roman owners. It was amazing to find out about the Roman history of our own local area.

Sport, Sport, Sport! (71 images)

What a busy first term for football! The boys teams have competed in both the league and the Albert Dix football tournament and the girls have competed in the girls football tournament. Both the boys' A and B teams have remained unbeaten all term. Both our tournament teams had great afternoons competing in the girls football tournament and the Albert Dix football. At the end of term one our cross country team represented the school at our local Cleeve Cluster Cross Country Festival. The festival comprised of individual and team races and involved five local schools. The weather was kind and all the children ran fantastically well and we came third overall. Y3 went to Cleeve School to play Circle Dodgeball! They were all trained in the art of Dodgeball and then played several games - we had a great time!
