illWhat happens when my child is ill?
Please keep your child at home if he or she is ill. Please telephone us before 9.00 am on
each day of absence and send a note on your child’s return for our records.
If your child is taken ill during the day we will contact you to make arrangements for them to go home.

Please ensure that we have an up to date emergency contact telephone number, with an alternative address to go to, if we can’t contact you.

It is school policy not to administer medication at school except in exceptional circumstances, such as pupils prescribed medicines for a short period eg antibiotics which require 4 daily doses, (a single dose must be supplied to school by the parent or carer) or those pupils with a Health Care Plan when the parent/carer or the pupil will be asked to bring in the required, named dose as appropriate.

In these circumstances, the school must be informed in writing (use ‘request for school to administer medication’ form ) and permission granted by the Headteacher.

Pupils who need access to medication on a continuing basis eg asthma inhalers or ventilators, sickle cell treatment, or insulin for diabetics, must bring their medication to school in suitable named tamper-proof containers. Where able to do so, they will be able to self-medicate.

A ‘request for pupils to carry his/her own medication’ form, must be completed and returned to the office. This includes parents who wish their child to take cough sweets during the school day.
It is the parents’ duty to ensure that all pupils who have asthma have a spare, named, up to date inhaler kept in school as well as an inhaler that the pupil keeps with them. Please fill and return the ‘request for pupils to carry his/her own medication’ if your child suffers from asthma.

Head lice are an increasing problem in all schools. If your child has head lice, the current recommended treatment is the conditioner and comb method. Please check your child’s head regularly, at least once a week.

Shoulder length hair should always be tied back for all school activities for health and safety reasons.
