Welcome to Our School
St. Mary’s CofE Juniors is situated in the village of Prestbury, on the outskirts of the historic Cotswold town of Cheltenham. With two classes in each year group, we currently have 240 boys and girls on roll. Originally built in 1826, the school buildings have been progressively extended and rebuilt over time. Despite our additions, the front of the school still retains much of its original character. Inside, our facilities are well-equipped, and include a hall, a music room and a dedicated ICT suite. Behind the adjacent St. Mary’s Infant School, both schools share a large playing field where the children can enjoy football, hockey, rounders, tag rugby, cricket, athletics and the annual sports day event. The field also allows the school to host town and area sporting events. The environment is a very important aspect of school life. With views to Cleeve Hill, a thriving wildlife area, a spiritual reflection area and a variety of trees and plants, we promote a caring and respectful attitude to our surroundings and give the opportunity for spiritual growth. The Church and our schoolThe voluntary aided status of Prestbury St Mary’s Church of England Junior School describes the special responsibilities and organisation of the foundation, the school and its governors. The school’s foundation is in the Church of England, having been founded originally by members of St Mary’s Parish Church and still maintains a close identity and interest through the clergy, the Parochial Council and the foundation governors. As a voluntary aided school, we maintain very strong links with the church. A member of the local clergy visits weekly to lead school worship and, at least once a term, the children worship in St Mary’s Church in the village. The school is also fortunate to have an active prayer group from the local Parish, who also support us in our daily work. |
